Редкое животное.

Посетители острова Падре на юге Техаса обнаружили на пляже редкого голубого дракона.

Here there be dragons! A blue dragon, a type of nudibranch or sea slug, was found in the park this weekend. Blue dragons are very small, generally only 3 cm, but don’t let their size fool you, they have a defense worthy of the name dragon. Blue dragons are a predator of the Portuguese man-of-war. After eating, they move the stinging cells from the man-of-war to the end of their “fingers.” Because they are able to concentrate the stinging cells together, their sting can be more painful than a man-of-war’s! So, if you see a dragon in the park, be amazed as they are a rare find, but also keep your distance! Glaucus atlanticus принадлежат к брюхоногим моллюскам и распространены в тропическом поясе. Из-за причудливой внешности с «крыльями» их еще называют голубыми ангелами. Длина животных варьируется от 5 до 40 см.

BLUE DRAGON. Today I was lucky to witness one of the most storybook character-like creatures the world has seen. Blue Dragons or the Blue Angels (Glaucus atlanticus) are very small sea slugs that live in the open ocean and are very rarely seen. They feed on venomous stingers such as Blue Bottles (see my previous post) and Portuguese Man o’war. The Blue Dragons then store the stinging nematocyst cells from their prey within their own tissues as defence against predators. They are known to give very painful and potentially dangerous stings to humans too. Основной цвет тела голубых драконов, вопреки названию, серебристый, но ротовые щупальца, ринофоры и нижняя поверхность церат окрашены в интенсивный синий цвет.

По словам местных жителей, этих существ не выносило на берег Техаса больше 30 лет.
