From an Israeli citizen
Dear Mr President!
Today, 14 October 2023, on the eve of our troops’ full-scale offense against Hamas, I am compelled to appeal to you with a short but important question:
In the light of the unprecedented loss of Israeli lives on October 7, this year, it is clear and undeniable that the country’s current Defence Minister Yoav Galant, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Ha-Levi, and their immediate predecessors, Chiefs of Staff Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot, did not ensure the country’s defence. Furthermore, even on October 7, the country’s defence chiefs did not react to the collapse of this defence immediately but only six hours later! Only six hours after the terrorists broke through, the army leadership sent troops to defend our security and gave the order to shoot at the terrorists!
I do not care who the Knesset commission will find guilty after the war. Our children are going to war today. That is why my question to you, my President, is about the composition of the War Cabinet that is now in charge of them:
If people who, by virtue of their professions, positions and powers, were obliged to provide for the defence of the country failed to do so, resulting in the deaths of 1,300 citizens, the capturing of 130 hostages, the wounding of 3,000 people and the theft of the valuable army equipment and weapons by terrorists, why are these very people heading the War Cabinet and continuing to lead the army?The fact that the parties of Mr Gantz and Mr Eisenkot have become popular speaks volumes about their talents as politicians. Had they been elected to the government’s Political cabinet, I would have no doubts. But the War Cabinet?
Therefore, Mr President, let me clarify my question: tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, our children will go into a deadly battle of biblical-historical scale with the ruthless fiends of mankind. If the Chief of the General Staff and the Minister of Defence of your citizens did not ensure this defence, how can you, the President, I, as a citizen and the people of Israel, entrust them with this battle? If they have made such appalling losses in defence, how many of our children will die in the offense they are leading?
I believe that there are truly talented, courageous and professional officers in our army who can lead this battle defending future of Israel and therefore of humanity.
I sincerely hope to receive your reply as soon as possible.
